Description
Antibiotic Resistance Genes — Add-On to GI-MAP®
This add-on to the GI-MAP® uses qPCR to detect the presence of antibiotic resistance genes in the gut microbiome. With rising antimicrobial resistance globally, identifying resistance patterns in gut pathogens before prescribing antibiotics is critical for selecting effective treatment and avoiding therapeutic failure.
Resistance Genes Tested:
- Macrolide resistance: ermB, ermC
- Fluoroquinolone resistance: gyrA mutations
- Beta-lactam / penicillin resistance: blaTEM, blaCTX-M
- Metronidazole resistance (relevant for H. pylori and anaerobes)
- Tetracycline resistance: tetM, tetO
Clinical Applications:
- Pre-treatment resistance screening before antibiotic therapy for H. pylori or gut pathogens
- Explaining antibiotic treatment failure
- Identifying resistance patterns to guide combination or alternative therapy
- Stewardship in functional medicine antibiotic protocols
This test is an add-on to GI-MAP® and cannot be ordered as a standalone test.
Sample Type:
Stool — single collection (combined with GI-MAP® sample).
