Description
Cyrex Total Serum IgG / IgA / IgM
This foundational immunoglobulin panel quantifies total circulating levels of the three main immunoglobulin classes in serum. It provides essential context for interpreting all other Cyrex antigen-specific antibody tests, and identifies immune deficiency, immune dysregulation, or hypergammaglobulinaemia that may affect results or indicate systemic immune dysfunction.
Immunoglobulins Measured:
- Total IgG: The dominant, long-term immune memory antibody — low levels indicate primary or secondary immune deficiency; elevated levels suggest chronic antigen stimulation or autoimmunity
- Total IgA: Mucosal and systemic immune defence — selective IgA deficiency is the most common primary immunodeficiency and causes falsely low results on IgA-based food reactivity tests
- Total IgM: Primary immune response antibody — elevated in early/acute infections; low in certain immunodeficiency syndromes
Clinical Applications:
- Baseline immune status before ordering Cyrex antigen panels
- Ruling out IgA deficiency before IgA-based reactivity tests (Arrays 3X, 4, 10)
- Immune deficiency screening
- Monitoring immunomodulatory treatments
Sample Type:
Blood serum — single blood draw.
