About Us

International functional medicine diagnostics, coordinated.

A platform built from lived experience — by a founder who personally navigated complex chronic-health challenges, spent years studying functional medicine and biomarker science, and built operational expertise in international diagnostic coordination.

The story behind GLOAIA Labs

I am Hemant Dattu Nikalje — engineer, MBA, and the founder of Global AutoImmunity Awareness (GLOAIA Labs).

1

Engineer turned international operator

Trained in Electronics and Telecommunications Engineering, followed by an MBA in International Trade. Spent years successfully managing business operations across 27 European countries for a multinational corporation.

2

A serious accident

A serious accident put me in the operating theatre under the care of an exceptional surgical team — surgeons trained at Oxford, UK. The surgery itself was complex but went well, and I am grateful to that team to this day.

3

The autoimmune diagnosis

The aftermath of the trauma triggered my thyroid, and within months I was diagnosed with Hashimoto’s thyroiditis — an autoimmune condition where my own immune system was attacking my thyroid gland.

4

The prognosis that broke me

My endocrinologist — an exceptionally credentialed physician (MD MRCP, London; CIDC, UK; MSE, UK) with forty years of experience at prestigious London hospitals — gave me his honest prognosis: take a thyroid replacement pill every day for the rest of my life, and learn to live with the flares of an autoimmune condition.

The prospect of permanent medication and unmanaged symptoms — with no investigation of why my immune system was attacking my own body — felt like surrendering to a problem nobody was trying to solve.

5

So I did what engineers do — I researched

My father holds a PhD in Chemistry. I had grown up around scientific rigor and aced biochemistry at university. Reading dense technical literature was familiar territory. I began with PubMed, peer-reviewed medical journals, and the published work of clinicians who specialized in autoimmune conditions — particularly Hashimoto’s.

The research that changed everything

The work of several remarkable physicians shaped my thinking:

Dr. Datis Kharrazian
PhD, DHSc, DC, MS, MMSc, FACN

Harvard Medical School-trained clinical research scientist and functional medicine practitioner. His book “Why Do I Still Have Thyroid Symptoms? When My Lab Tests Are Normal” opened my understanding of how Hashimoto’s affects multiple body systems. I went on to complete his clinical programs on Hashimoto’s and neurological dysfunction.

Dr. Jeffrey S. Bland
PhD, FACN, FACB, CNS

Widely regarded as the father of functional medicine, hand-selected by Nobel Laureate Dr. Linus Pauling to direct nutritional research at the Linus Pauling Institute. His teaching on systems biology gave me a completely new framework for thinking about chronic disease.

Dr. Mark Hyman
MD

Co-founder of Function Health, founder of The UltraWellness Center, founder of the Cleveland Clinic Center for Functional Medicine, and Board Member of The Institute of Functional Medicine.

Dr. Izabella Wentz
PharmD, FASCP

Her book “Hashimoto’s Thyroiditis: Lifestyle Interventions for Finding and Treating the Root Cause” consolidated the most practical, actionable knowledge I had encountered on the condition.

Dr. Ben Lynch
ND

World authority on methylation and clinical nutrigenomics. I completed his “Methylation and Clinical Nutrigenomics” certification programs (Levels 1 and 2).

Dr. Sara Gottfried
MD

Harvard-educated physician with 25 years of clinical practice in hormonal health.

I also pursued formal certification in Neuroscience from a leading US Ivy League institution.

Over the years, this journey also included extensive continuing education across functional medicine, biomarker interpretation, laboratory workflows, and chronic-health research — including participation in practitioner-oriented educational and laboratory-training programs offered by several internationally recognized specialty diagnostic laboratories, focused on areas such as hormone health, gut health, autoimmune reactivity, and functional diagnostics.

My education in this field did not end with certifications. I continue to participate in practitioner-oriented educational programs, laboratory training webinars, and clinical education events hosted regularly by our laboratory partners — covering biomarker interpretation, new test methodologies, emerging clinical protocols, lifestyle and supplement guidance, and the latest advances in functional and integrative diagnostics. This continuing engagement helps us stay aligned with the most current operational, scientific, and educational developments in this field.

In addition to laboratory-sponsored educational programs, I continue to participate in advanced practitioner-training programs, continuing clinical education initiatives, and specialized coursework offered by internationally recognized educators, researchers, and clinicians in the fields of functional medicine, biomarker interpretation, autoimmunity, methylation, hormonal health, and chronic-condition management. This ongoing engagement helps us stay current with emerging research, evolving clinical frameworks, and operational best practices in the broader functional medicine ecosystem.

~3,000 → ~50
TPO-Ab antibody count, over time

Applying what I learned, my own thyroid antibody count (TPO-Ab) decreased from approximately 3,000 to around 50 over time. More importantly, I developed a deeper understanding of how diagnostics, lifestyle factors, nutrition, and ongoing clinical learning can contribute to better-informed health decisions.

Every health journey is unique, and outcomes vary significantly between individuals — depending on diagnosis, medical history, treatment approach, lifestyle factors, and many other variables. My experience should not be interpreted as a guarantee, prediction, or promise of similar results for others.

A note in plain language: this is my personal health journey, shared here for context only. It is not a treatment claim, not medical advice, and not a guarantee of similar results for anyone else. Autoimmune conditions vary enormously between individuals. Anyone considering functional medicine approaches should work with a qualified healthcare practitioner who can assess their specific situation. Please also read our Healthcare Disclaimer for the full framing.

At the same time, GLOAIA Labs continues to work alongside qualified healthcare practitioners and professional medical networks wherever appropriate — recognizing that responsible healthcare support requires both operational coordination AND clinical expertise. We coordinate. Practitioners diagnose and treat. That distinction is foundational to everything we do.

Why GLOAIA Labs exists

GLOAIA Labs began by solving a logistics problem — helping patients and practitioners access specialized diagnostic testing across borders. However, our long-term vision extends beyond logistics alone.

We are building a coordinated ecosystem that helps patients access advanced diagnostics, helps practitioners make better-informed clinical decisions, supports ongoing practitioner education, and helps the global functional medicine community share knowledge and protocols more effectively.

Today we coordinate testing and operational workflows. Tomorrow we aim to provide educational tools, practitioner collaboration resources, clinical decision-support infrastructure, and patient-engagement features — all built around the same principle of operational integrity and clinical honesty.

While much of our operational expertise was built through international coordination, we also serve patients within the United States. US patients can order testing directly through our platform, while patients in supported international markets benefit from the same access via the operational workflow we have built.

Once I had recovered my own health, a question stayed with me: how many people around the world are stuck where I was stuck, but without the engineering research skills, the family background in science, or the time to do what I did?

In parallel, while consulting and learning from functional medicine practitioners in the United States, Europe, and Australia, I observed a consistent operational pain point on the practitioner side:

“We have international patients who need our specialized diagnostic panels — Dutch hormones, GI mapping, organic acids, heavy metals, methylation. But we cannot serve them. The labs are in the US. Customs paperwork is complex. International logistics is a different problem from clinical work. We don’t have the bandwidth.”

There was an obvious gap on both sides: patients globally who needed access to specialized US diagnostic testing, and practitioners globally who wanted to serve those patients but lacked the operational infrastructure to do so.

That is the gap GLOAIA Labs exists to close.

We are a coordination platform — not a laboratory, not a clinic, and not a healthcare provider. Today we coordinate the operational complexity that has historically sat between patients and world-class diagnostics: laboratory access, kit dispatch, customs documentation, international logistics, and sample-return workflows. Around that operational foundation we are building a broader ecosystem — patient health records, practitioner workflow tools, evidence integration, and ongoing practitioner education — so that practitioners can focus on clinical judgment and patients can focus on getting well.

Patient data sold — ever

Since 2016, we have coordinated testing and diagnostic-access workflows for clients across the United States, India, Singapore, and Canada. Over that time, we have developed extensive practical experience in cross-border functional medicine logistics: navigating customs categories, identifying courier networks that handle biological samples reliably, understanding country-specific documentation requirements, and resolving the operational challenges that arise for both patients and practitioners working across jurisdictions.

The public platform launching now is the result of those learnings — structured, documented, scaled, and made accessible to a wider audience.

Over the years, our services have been trusted by individuals from diverse professional backgrounds, including senior corporate leaders, business owners, healthcare professionals, and families seeking advanced diagnostic care. The trust we have built is reflected in long-standing client relationships across our active markets.

Today, we are operationally serving patients across ten supported countries: India, United States, Singapore, Canada, United Kingdom, Australia, United Arab Emirates, Japan, Ireland, and the Netherlands. For details on what we coordinate end-to-end in each country, please see our How It Works page.

Our commitment

GLOAIA Labs is built on five operating principles:

01

Honesty about what we are and what we are not

We are a coordination platform. We are not a laboratory, a clinic, or a healthcare provider. We never blur this line.

02

Privacy as a design discipline

Our Privacy Policy reflects our actual practices, not aspirational copy. We design our systems with reference to applicable privacy and healthcare-data principles, including India’s DPDP Act 2023, GDPR requirements where applicable, and healthcare-data handling practices commonly used within the US healthcare ecosystem in working alongside our US Laboratory Partners.

03

No advertising, no profiling, no selling of patient data

Ever. This is not a marketing tactic — it is a non-negotiable principle.

04

Transparency on regulatory variability

Cross-border diagnostic testing is operationally complex and conditions can change without notice. When they do, we communicate openly. Please see our Shipping & Logistics Policy and Healthcare Disclaimer for our framing of these realities.

05

The patient and practitioner are the customer — not the data

Every product decision passes through this filter.

Why patients and practitioners trust us

The trust we build with patients and practitioners is earned through operational discipline, not marketing claims. Specifically:

Operating experience since 2016

Almost a decade of real-world experience coordinating specialty diagnostic testing across borders.

🔗
Direct lab relationships

Direct relationships with leading specialty laboratories — no intermediaries, no substituted panels, no compromises on which lab actually performs the test.

🌍
Multi-country operational fluency

Experience serving patients across multiple countries — operational familiarity with customs documentation, courier networks, and country-specific requirements that turn cross-border diagnostic testing from a guessing exercise into a reliable workflow.

👥
Founder-led, mission-driven

This is not a venture capital project; it is the operational expression of a personal journey through Hashimoto’s thyroiditis and deep commitment to chronic-health education.

💰
Transparent pricing

One consolidated price per test, multi-currency display, no surprise charges at delivery, no fragmented billing.

🔒
Privacy-first philosophy

No advertising, no profiling, no selling of patient data, ever. The patient and practitioner are the customer, not the data.

Looking ahead

The work we have done so far is the foundation. The work we are doing now is the scaffolding. The work ahead — connecting practitioners across continents, building patient-facing tools that turn raw lab data into actionable understanding, supporting research-grade longitudinal health tracking, and building a peer-learning ecosystem that helps newer practitioners learn from established ones — is the building itself.
